Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, Rick Benjamin, Director
In an abandoned warehouse in 1985 Rick Benjamin discovered the long-lost collection of standard American "theatre orchestra" scores once belonging to Victrola recording star Arthur Pryor, and with it the inspiration for the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra (PRO). Mr Benjamin gathered Juilliard colleagues to perform these turn-of-the-century treasures, and the PRO was born. This CD is an entertaining testimony to the rich heritage of American theater, cinema and dance orchestra traditions.

Start roasting those chestnuts, drop into your favorite soft chair, and for an hour allow The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra to carry you back to those quieter, simpler days of Christmases long past. You'll be glad you did!
A wonderful recreation of the standard American "theatre orchestra" popular from the 1880's through the early 1920's by this talented ensemble of director Rick Benjamin's Juilliard colleagues. Before the time of recorded soundtracks, these orchestras were vital accompaniments for vaudeville, operetta, musical comedy and later, the emerging medium of motion pictures. Turn down the lights and enjoy the show.
