Cyrille Rose was one of the most respected clarinet performers of the 19th century and from 1857 to 1891 he served as clarinetist at the Paris Opera. Renowned especially for his insistence on careful phrasing, Rose is remembered today for his series of clarinet etudes. This CD presents his best-known collection, the Thirty-Two Etudes. His goal was to develop control and good phrasing in the performer. They are in the keys of C, G, F, D, B-flat, A, E-flat, E, B, and D-flat Major, plus a, e, d, b, g and c minor.
